With local authorities, we strengthen justice systems to protect people from slavery and violence.
IJM works with local authorities to protect people in poverty from everyday violence, modern slavery and human trafficking.
Millions of people are at risk of everyday violence — crimes like slavery, trafficking, violence against women and children and police abuse of power. Our model works alongside local authorities to strengthen justice systems to better protect people in poverty from violence and exploitation.
How we work to protect people from slavery, human trafficking and violence:

With Local Authorities, We Bring People to Safety
We partner with local authorities to bring to safety individual victims of violence and provide trauma-informed support to survivors. Over 85,000 people have been brought to safety from slavery and violence.

We Strengthen Justice Systems
Slavery still exists because traffickers can get away with crime. We provide training, mentoring and support to local law enforcement and other community leaders to deter traffickers, which slows down and stops the cycle of violence.
We've seen slavery reduced by up to 86% in places we've worked, read more of IJM's studies and research.

We Bring Criminals to Justice
We work alongside justice system officials to ensure that criminals are held accountable, stopping the cycle of violence and deterring others from abusing vulnerable people.

We’re working all around the world to protect people from slavery and violence.
Beyond slavery, we protect people in poverty from:

Online Sexual Exploitation of Children
Online Sexual Exploitation of Children is on the rise. Now, sex offenders anywhere in the world can direct live sexual abuse of children from the safety of their homes. Find out how IJM works to stop this brutal crime.

Forced Labour Slavery
Forced labour slavery uses deception, threats or violence to coerce someone to work for little to no pay.

Violence Against Women and Children
Because women and children around the world often are not effectively protected by the law, they are particularly vulnerable to violent abuse.

Sex Trafficking
The nightmare of sex trafficking thrives when law enforcement cannot protect vulnerable children and women.

Land Theft
For some families, a house and a small patch of land are often their only sources of shelter, food, and desperately needed income.

Police Abuse of Power
In some of the poorest parts of the world, vulnerable people are abused by corrupt police who extort bribes and brutalise innocent citizens.
