Gift Aid is a government scheme that helps your support go further. If you are a UK taxpayer and opt-in to Gift Aid by completing a Gift Aid Declaration, IJM UK can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you donate at no extra cost to you (as long as you have paid the basic rate of tax and make the donation from your own funds). Claiming Gift Aid can increase the value of your donation by 25%.

You can make a Gift Aid declaration to IJM UK if you are a UK taxpayer by completing the form here. A Gift Aid Declaration is a statement made by an individual taxpayer confirming that they would like IJM UK to reclaim tax on their donations. If you are donating to IJM UK on our website, you will have the option to set up a declaration during that process. A charitable donation is a gift of money to a charity to help it accomplish its goals, for which the donor receives nothing of value in return. Gift Aid can’t be applied to payment for tickets for charity events or the payment for an item at a charity auction since the donor has received some benefit in the form of a ticket or item won.

Gift Aid can be applied to all voluntary donations of money providing they are made by an individual who pays sufficient UK tax. The declaration will cover cash, cheque, Direct Debit, standing order, and credit and debit card donations. It is not applied to donations made from tax efficient payment schemes such as CAF and Stewardship, or from payroll giving gifts, as tax relief has already been applied.

You are eligible for Gift Aid if you have paid enough tax in a tax year to cover the amount we are reclaiming on your donations. Income from state pensions alone may not meet this threshold but if you are paying tax on personal or occupational pension plans, savings accounts, stocks or shares, rental income, or capital gains, this may mean you still qualify for Gift Aid.

IJM UK can only reclaim tax at the basic rate for all supporters. For higher rate taxpayers there is a section on your tax return where you can reclaim the extra tax on your charitable donations and specify the charity(ies) to which you would like this extra tax to be sent. Tax can be claimed on gifts from a joint account, where one of the couple is a taxpayer and the other is not. If the gift is coming from a joint bank account, only one Gift Aid Declaration (from a/the taxpayer) is needed to reclaim the tax. If the gift is made by cheque, it can be signed by either partner (it does not need to be signed by the taxpayer).

A Gift Aid Declaration covers past, present, and future donations to IJM UK. We can claim Gift Aid on past donations you have made in the last four years, and we can continue to claim on your donations unless you tell us otherwise.

Gift Aid can only be claimed on donations from individuals. Company donations do not qualify for Gift Aid.
