5 Fishermen Rescued in Thailand
Forced LabourBreaking News: Five fishermen are now free from forced labour and human trafficking after being rescued by Thailand's Department of Special Investigation (DSI) with assistance from IJM.
Four of the fishermen were identified by Thai government officers on Tuesday as victims of human trafficking, while the fifth was identified as a forced labor victim under Thailand’s new forced labour law.
All five men are from Myanmar and were forced to work on Thai fishing boats off the coast of Thailand. IJM learned their stories and collaborated with DSI to rescue them.
The five survivors will be transferred to a government shelter for safety and assistance. They will continue to be supported by IJM as they move forward in freedom and pursue justice in court.
