What is modern slavery?

Slavery is the use of lies or violence to force another person to work with little or no pay.

Children as young as four are being violently exploited as slaves.

Slavery is illegal almost everywhere. So why does it exist?

In many places the laws against slavery simply aren't enforced by the police and courts—so slave owners and traffickers know they can prey on people trapped in poverty without any consequences at all.

From fishing boats to brick kilns to brothels, slavery takes place all over.

Marko was a seven-year-old boy sexually abused on live internet video—a crime called cybersex trafficking.

He dreamed of being like Superman, but had no way out. Here is Marko's story of rescue.
