Two traffickers arrested in the UK for sexual exploitation
Sex TraffickingOctober 2024
A woman and a man have been arrested in the UK for trafficking a young Romanian woman into commercial sexual exploitation in the UK.
The survivor shared that without the assistance of IJM, she wouldn’t have felt safe enough to give her statements to the police.
Thanks to the compassionate support she received, she was empowered to testify, leading to these arrests and helping protect others from exploitation.
As Laura* from IJM’s European Anti-Trafficking Programme said, “It’s moments like these that remind me it’s the voices of survivors that strengthen our justice system.”
The two suspects were charged with multiple offenses:
- Holding a person in slavery or servitude;
- Arranging or facilitating travel of another person with a view to exploitation;
- Controlling prostitution for gain;
- Concealing/disguising/converting/transferring/removing criminal property
IJM will continue to work closely with the survivor, providing legal, social, and emotional support as she rebuilds her life, and will support her in the upcoming court case.
