Romanian woman trafficked to the UK now safe
Sex TraffickingJune 2024
Ada*, a young Romanian woman who was trafficked to many countries in Europe including the UK, is now safe.
Ada was vulnerable to trafficking having spent most of her childhood in the Romanian child protection system.
After turning 18, she moved in with her boyfriend and soon-to-be father of her child. But her happiness was short-lived. He began physically and emotionally abusing her.
Things went from bad to worse when Ada was trafficked multiple times by people she knew.
She eventually found herself in the hands of a large, organised crime group who sexually exploited her, physically abused her, and threatened to kill her if she contacted the police.
At the end of 2023, Ada managed to escape and seek help. Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, IJM met her on arrival at the airport in Romania.
IJM helped Ada find somewhere safe to stay where she could receive support for her significant medical and psychological needs, following the trauma she had endured.
Today, Ada is safe and being supported to heal. IJM is working with police to ensure that those who trafficked her are held to account.
