David Westlake Announces Transition from CEO Role at IJM UK
David Westlake has announced that he will be leaving the anti-trafficking and anti-violence NGO, International Justice Mission UK, after eight years as CEO.
During his time at IJM UK, David has overseen a period of significant growth, including launching IJM’s anti-trafficking work on the ground in the UK, strengthening the organisation’s presence across the country, and raising IJM’s profile within the UK. He has also led the organisation through the challenges of a global pandemic and cost-of-living crisis.
David joined IJM UK in 2016 after serving as International Director at Tearfund. Under his leadership, IJM UK has raised millions of pounds to protect people from trafficking, exploitation, and abuse, as well as putting a greater spotlight on these issues and mobilising thousands to take action.
Andy Griffiths, President of IJM Africa and Europe, says:
"David has built a strong and passionate team, dedicated to the mission of justice. His leadership and personal investment have been instrumental in IJM UK’s growth and impact. We are deeply grateful for all he has achieved and wish him the very best for the future."
Reflecting on his time at IJM UK, David says:
"It has been an immense privilege to lead IJM UK over the last eight years, working alongside a skilled and dedicated team. Together, we have strengthened IJM UK’s impact and worked tirelessly to bring freedom and safety to people experiencing modern slavery and violence. I am grateful for all we have accomplished and for the incredible people I have had the joy of working with. Thank you."
IJM UK will be supported by Biju Mathew as Interim CEO. Biju brings extensive experience in global operations, grant management, and anti-trafficking efforts. Having led IJM teams across multiple countries, his expertise and insights will enable IJM UK to continue its vital work with excellence.
Biju Mathew, Interim CEO, says:
"I am honoured to step into this role and build on the strong foundation that David and the team have established. IJM UK plays a critical role in the fight for justice, and I look forward to working alongside our partners, supporters, and staff to continue bringing freedom to people trapped in violence and modern slavery. Hope is at the heart of this movement, and together, we will keep pushing forward—because every person deserves to live in safety and freedom."
A search for the next CEO will be conducted in due course.
