New project identifies cases of online sexual exploitation of children in Kenya
Online Sexual Exploitation of ChildrenNovember 2022
BREAKING: Brand new IJM project helped authorities identify two children being sexually exploited and arrest one suspect in Kenya, after training in collaboration with Meta and NCMEC (National Center for Missing & Exploited Children).
The partnership, called Project Boost, led by IJM's Center to End Online Sexual Exploitation of Children, helps train law enforcement around the world to identify and investigate cases of online sexual exploitation of children, including in Kenya, Ghana and Nigeria.
In 2021, NCMEC’s #CyberTipline received a staggering 29 million reports of suspected child sexual exploitation, an increase of 35% from 2020.
Of the 29.3 million reports that the CyberTipline received in 2021, 93% resolved to locations outside the U.S.
Online sexual exploitation of children knows no borders. But together, we can bring children to safety, hold abusers to account and stop this horrific crime for good.
