Justice at last for Anna* in Kenya

After 13 years pursuing justice, Anna finally saw the man who sexually abused her sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Anna was 14 years old when she was raped by her headteacher – a man she trusted and respected.

Anna cried the entire night. Scared and alone, she asked herself, "Why did this happen to me?"

When IJM staff learned what had happened to Anna, we began to support her to heal from her trauma and fight for justice.

Thanks to Anna’s powerful testimony, the support of people like you and the tireless work of IJM’s lawyers over 13 years – overcoming an appeal and a retrial – justice was finally served last month.

Today Anna’s passion for justice extends beyond her own case. She’s using her experience of sexual violence to educate girls and caregivers in Kenya – where violence remains a serious problem.
