IJM UK Hosts Parliamentary Drop-In
Summary:
February 2026
In the heart of Westminster, IJM UK briefed over 25 MPs on one of the fastest‑growing forms of child abuse – and the action the UK Government can take to stop it.
In partnership with the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Human Trafficking & Modern Slavery and the APPG on Children’s Online Safety, IJM UK hosted a parliamentary drop‑in that informed the MPs about the rise of online sexual abuse and exploitation of children – and the opportunity for the UK Government to take a global lead in stopping the abuse before it starts.
Shockingly, the UK is among the top three global consumers of for-profit livestreamed child sexual abuse (UK National Crime Agency, 2019). The NCA has warned that without technology sector action and regulatory requirements, the problem will continue to grow and children in the UK and around the world are at risk of significant harm.
The event had strong cross-party attendance. Several MPs attended after being urged by constituents through IJM UK’s Write to Your MP campaign – demonstrating growing public concern.
Parliamentarians were invited to sign a joint letter to both the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology and the Home Secretary, urging swift action to ensure on‑device protections become standard.
IJM UK is calling for legislation to require device manufacturers and operating system services to incorporate safeguards which disrupt child sexual abuse material, including livestreaming, into the operating systems of devices sold in the UK – putting a stop to the abuse before it starts.
No device should be compatible with child sexual abuse. Together, we can make that a reality.
