Violence Against Women and Girls
1 in every 3 women experiences violence in her lifetime. [1]
Billie* in Bolivia was only a child.
Billie was only seven when her uncle began to sexually abuse her. She didn’t tell anyone for years – until she discovered her little sister was being abused by the same man.
Worldwide, up to 50% of sexual assaults are committed against girls under 16 years old [2]. This has to stop now.
IJM works to combat violence against women and children in Bolivia, Guatemala, El Salvador, Colombia, Peru, Uganda and Kenya.

With IJM and partners' support, last year Billie's uncle was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Today, Billie is stronger than ever. While working and completing her university thesis, Billie is an active part of the survivor group which supported her.
She hopes that her story will be a testament of strength for those still seeking justice:
“It was not your fault. You didn’t deserve it. You will find the path to healing and overcoming.”
