Prior to founding IJM, Gary was a human rights lawyer and served as the Director of the UN’s investigation following the Rwandan genocide. Gary has been recognized by the U.S. State Department as a Trafficking in Persons “Hero” – the highest honour given by the U.S. government for anti-slavery leadership. Gary's work with IJM to protect people in poverty from violence has been featured by Foreign Affairs, The New York Times, the New Yorker, The Times of India, Forbes, U.S. News and World Report, the Guardian and National Public Radio, among many other outlets.
Gary has authored several books, including ‘Good News About Injustice’ and ‘The Locust Effect: Why The End of Poverty Requires The End of Violence' and his TED Talk has been viewed over 2 million times. He is a world-renowned leader and speaker on themes of poverty, justice and hope.
