Peace* can’t remember how many times her neighbour abused her. When Helsa discovered what had happened to her precious daughter, she
was heartbroken but determined: “I adopted Peace when she was just two years old and I will not fail her.
IJM worked with a partner to provide Peace with professional counselling.
Thanks to the critical care Helsa and Peace received from IJM, justice became possible. The perpetrator was sentenced to eight years in prison for abusing Peace and three other young children.
Today, Peace feels safe and free. She dreams of becoming a doctor: “I want to treat and help people who are sick, and I am studying hard,” she says proudly.
