Just Desserts
Bringing freedom to the oppressed through pudding parties!
If you are looking for a way to engage your friends with the reality of injustice and support the work of IJM then why not consider hosting an IJM UK Just Desserts event?
Just Desserts is an advocacy initiative encouraging you to raise awareness about of the reality of modern-day slavery and encourage your friends to explore different ways in which we can all do our bit to help seek justice for victims of violent oppression.
Hosting a Just Desserts event provides you with the unique opportunity to give your time and culinary skills (or those of a friend!) to the work of justice. Indeed, by inviting friends in your wider community to enjoy an evening at your home eating desserts and hearing about the work of IJM, we believe you can help spark further concern for the oppressed and help develop a nationwide passion for justice.
Why not take the initiative and choose to host a Just Desserts evening? You are free to do the event in whatever way you feel comfortable. For example, we suggest that you simply have a relaxed time of eating desserts with your guests and then move on (perhaps over coffee) to giving an IJM presentation with time for questions and answers.
To help you we have put together four resources for your preparation and use on the night, all of which can be downloaded from this page:
- PowerPoint presentation (basic overview of IJM with story)
- ‘Behind The Story of The Trade’ film
- Frequently Asked Questions document
- Suggested Recipes document
Of course, we also want to be able to help and support you in organising such an evening so please contact Projects Assistant, Oliver Wright at oliver.wright@ijmuk.org or on 0845 094 3109. Oliver will be able to arrange a time to brief you fully about IJM and will send you the following resources to use on the night:
- Quarterly Newsletters
- Seek Justice flyers
- Freedom Partner giving forms
- Sign-up sheets
- Books
- Points for Prayer
- DVD(s)
If you are hoping to host a particularly large event he can also discuss with you the possibility of sending along an accredited IJM UK speaker.
“Change happens when ordinary people do what they can to STOP INJUSTICE.”
